Godliness With Contentment. In this life there is a certain way God wants us to be. There is a certain way God wants us to live. In this life there is so much pressure to have a lot of money and people strive to be rich. The lottery offer a get rich quickly way that people gamble away there money trying to hit the big one. We must be aware of this and not be consume with being rich. In 1 Timothy 6:6 it says “But godliness with contentment is great gain”. The bible offer us way to go in life and the way of godliness is more important than being rich. Yes, we all know we cannot live in this life without money. We all have to have money to afford, a house, a car, pay the light bill or gas bill, and so on. But our focus in life such not to be rich, but to be godly, and if we be godly, riches will take care of itself. Godliness with contentment is great gain, if we be godly first and be content with what we have God who see our need will supply all our need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Paul said in “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content, I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need”. Whatever state that we are in now we should be content, knowing that if we feel like we are coming up short in our needs for life, that God will supply it and we do not need to be consume with hitting the big one. Let us remember what 1 Timothy 6:7-8 says “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out, and having food and raiment let us be therewith content”. Seek to be godly and let God meet our needs.
The Great Reward. We work and labor each day with a expectation that at the end of the week, or month that we are going to get a reward for our labor. Not to many people going to work for free, unless they are rich, and even the rich expect pay at the end of the day. There is a reward for our labor on this earth. What we do in life we are going to get a reward when we die. Our labor on earth is living according to God will, or not living according to God will. Life is about keeping God commandments or not keeping God commandments. In Psalm 19:11 it says “Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward”. God word warns us that if we do not keep God commandments, then at the end of life God going to punish us. Example, if we are driving down the highway and we see a sign that says, “warning road are close bridge is out”, than we are not going to keep going but turn around and go another way. The same is with God word it warns us that if we disobey God he is going to punish us. But on the other hand if we obey his word and walk in his statues then at the end of life there is a great reward, which is spending eternal life with him. There is a reward for doing good in this life, God word direct us to do good. In Psalm 19:8 it says “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul”. God word is a perfect answer for everything we need in the life, to be happy and live a good life. If obey his word, things will go well for us and there is a great reward. So beloved, know that your labor of love in this life is not in vain, do good, keep God commandments and remember there is a GREAT REWARD at the end of this life.
Living The Dream. As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. holiday today we want to keep his dream alive. We just don’t want to take the day off and do nothing, but to reflect on his vision and then go out and try to fulfill his vision with positive deeds. This day is about doing something good to somebody. No matter who you are, or where you come from you can do something good to somebody. The good thing about it, is it does not have to cost you a dime, it can be done free. You can give a warm smile to a stranger, speak to a stranger and say hello, open the door for someone, tell someone you love them, or just listen to a person problems. There is so many ways we can do something good to our neighbor that can make their day. One thing that Martin Luther King Jr. said was and I quote “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?”. Life is not about me first and you second, but esteeming others to be better than yourself. To look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others (Philippians 3:3-4). We are to go about our day seeking to edify, and encourage others. How can I be a blessing to someone, is the question we should ask ourselves each day. A selfish person is a unhappy person, but a giving person is a happy person. If you want to be happy then try doing good for others. So as we go about this day let us live the dream, let us answer life most persistent and urgent question with a yes, that I am going to do something good to someone, I am going to help someone today, and if we do that we will be keeping the dream alive and God blessing will be on our life.
The Right Mind. One of the most important part of us as humans is our mind. What we think, what we feel, what we perceives, what we reason, and what we judge by is all part of our mind. The mind shapes our life and how we go about our day, so it important each day to have the right mind. Which leads us to ask what mind should we have? The answer is in Philippians 2:5 it says “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus”. So the mind that Christ Jesus had on this earth is the mind that we should have. What mind did Christ have? In Philippians 2:6-8 describe the mind that Christ had. Christ did not make a reputation for himself. He did not try to establish himself as someone great, but just a ordinary person focus on doing God will. The bible also tells us not to mind high things but to condescend to men of low estate. We are no better than anyone else, we should not look down on any man, but have the same mind one toward another regardless of what a person have or don’t have. Jesus had a servant mind, he was made in the likeness as me and you and he humbled himself to God and came obedient to his will. The right mind leads us to esteem others better than ourselves and to look to the things of others (Philippians 2:3-4). What mind do you have, do you think you are better than others? Do you care about others, is life about me, myself, and I. If this mind is in you, then this is not the right mind, you must turn from this mind, and ask God to give you the mind of Christ. If you do this then your life will be filled with must joy and God will bless you on this earth. Amen
Refuge. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. We all going to face trouble in our life. Situations, problems, and tribulations are going to come. Jesus told his disciples, “In the world ye shall have tribulation”. This is a given that we are going to go through. But there is good news for us to know that God is our refuge in times of trouble. Refuge provides a shelter from danger. When we do not know what to do in trouble, we do not know which way to turn, and even in time of depression, we must know God is there and we can call upon his name and he will help us. A very present help in trouble, means God is right there, when we need him he is there all we have to do is call upon his name and he will answer. Sometimes friends do not understand, sometimes we may not know which way to turn, but be encourage that there is a place to go to find help. Psalm 46:7 says “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge”. Yes, the Lord said he will never leave or forsake us and he will be there in time of trouble. There are times we feel all alone and nobody cares, but God do cares and is a very present help in time of trouble. In the book of Hebrews chapter 4 it tells us Jesus is our high priest and knows what we are going through and in the time of trouble we must come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of trouble. God is there for us, so done fight the battle alone, always remember we have a refuge, a place of safety, and in time of trouble go to your God.
The Great message. A angel of the Lord came unto shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night, and said “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord”. This is the greatest message to be heard because God had sent his son unto the world to save us from our sins. No matter who you are or where you came from this message is for you that Lord so love you that he gave his only begotten son and that whosoever believe on him shall have everlasting life. After that message was given there came a multitude of heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. God sent his son to give us peace, remember Jesus told his disciples that in the world you going to have trouble, but I came to give you peace. Christ has given us peace through the mist of our troubles, if we call on him and seek his face he will help us. So we should be rejoicing in knowing that we have a Saviour that is born and he came to deliver us from our trouble. Don’t get catch up in the commercialization of Christmas, but keep a humble mind to understand what is the reason for the season. Remember the great message that the angel delivered to the shepherds, and we can rejoice in God that we have a Saviour, who died for us, who loves us, and wants to give us eternal life. Glory to God in the highest, Amen
Good Works. There is a calling from God on our life. God is expecting us to do good. The bible said that Jesus went about doing good. God expect us to do the same thing each day. Everyday of our life God expects us to go about our day seeking an way to do good to somebody somehow, someway. If it is only a smile, a kind word, giving our time to the needy, feeding the poor or just a simple listening ear. Anyway, anyhow we can do good this what God wants us to do. Even toward the government God wants us to do good. In Titus 3:1 it says, “Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work”. Though we are christian we are not above the necessity of getting alone with the civil authorities who govern us. Like when the Peter came to Jesus about paying taxes, Jesus did not refuse, but told him to go catch a fish, and get the money out of him and pay the taxes. Whatever is good and doing good we should be in the center of it. Titus also said in chapter 3:8, that we that believe in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto man. Which mean we should apply ourselves to good deeds each day. We must put up a effort to do good. Jesus told his disciples, the poor will always be with you. Someone will always have a need, though we cannot fulfill every need, we must do our share. So beloved, live not your life to yourself, but seek how you can to a blessing to someone each day.
Meditation. What are you thinking about? What you think about each day will shape who you are. If you are thinking good thoughts, positive thoughts, you will feel good about yourself. If you are thinking bad thoughts, you will feel bad about yourself. The bibles tells us we should be thinking on good things. Philippians 4:8 tells us, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”. So we know God word is the only thing that is pure, true, and honest, so this is what we should be thinking about. In Psalms chapter 1 it says blessed is the man that delight in the law of the lord, and in his law doth he mediate day and night. God law is what we should be thinking about day and night, because his law will lead us to do what is right. If we are thinking about God word when the devil bring a bad thought to us God word will counter act with a good thought. When someone do something wrong to us, the word of God will tell us be not overcome with evil but overcome evil with good. When we delight in God word and mediate on it, then will bring forth fruit, and when we bring forth fruit then God is glorified. This is God desire that we bring forth much fruit. This is why David said in Psalms chapter 19, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight”. You are what you think, so let us think good thoughts, let us delight in God law each day and mediate on his word, and see want God prosper whatever you do.
Lord Trieth The Hearts. The bible says that out of the heart comes the issue of life. Whatsoever in the heart is what a man going to do. Whatsoever in the heart man is going to speak. Man put gold in the furnace to purify it, the more the fire the purer gold gets. The Lord God tests our character so that we can become pure before him. The bible says only the pure in heart shall see God. God wants us a certain way and to get us to the way God wants us he trieth our hearts. When God led the Israel out of Egypt to the promise land all they had to do was go straight through the Wilderness of Shur and Zin and they would have been to the promise land, but God led them down south to the Red Sea, then sent Pharaoh behind them. The only way they had to go was through the Red Sea, you talking about the test of the heart, but God delivered them. God promise the children of Israel a land flowing with milk and honey, when they got there it had milk and honey, but it had also giants that rule the land. The Lord test their heart to believe him to defeat the giants, some believe and some doubted. The ones that doubted God they did not get to go in. In James chapter one it tells us to count it all joy when you fall in divers temptations, knowing that the trying of your faith is much more precious than gold that perish. So beloved know that God going to test us and try us, so we must believe God through the bad times knowing he will never leave or forsake us. Trust in God and lean not to your own understanding but in all yours ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path.
Worship God. Paul told the people of Philippians, that he worship God in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. We must worship God in spirit and in truth. God is a spirit and he seek them that worship him in spirit and in truth. If we put our trust in the flesh it will lead us away from God.We know the flesh lust again the spirit, and we cannot do the things that please God by walking in the flesh. Jesus told the Pharisees in vain do they worship him, by teaching for doctrines the commandments of men, by laying aside the commandment of God, just to hold to the tradition of men. We cannot serve God in the spirit by holding on to tradition. Most all religion have some kind of tradition, that is not according to God word. It do not make no difference what religion we are in the bottom line we must worship God according to his word. We cannot reject God word just to hold some tradition, but we must lay aside tradition, and follow after God word. God has written his word for us to follow and all we have to do is follow his word, and then he would be please with us. We make God word of none effect through traditions. Worshiping God is worshiping him by his word, everything we do must line up with his word. We cannot do nothing without his word. Jesus said man cannot live by bread alone, but we must live by every word that perceive out of the mouth of God. So let us worship God in spirit and truth, let us live by his word each day, and put aside any tradition that man has set up in this world. Amen
